Macclesfield FC Community Mosaic

I don't actually need to say anything - the pictures say it all!

Except that this panel was started off by the young people in the morning session who then left to have a coaching session from Macclesfield Town FC.  

This panel shows the Silkmen and Everton FA Cup match scarf.  I think most football fans have their team's scarf so it felt appropriate to include one in the mosaic.

Macclesfield Town FC Community Mosaic

I am very fortunate to be the project manager/artist for the Macclesfield Town FC community mosaic mural project.  Funded by Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust and the Football Club, I have designed a 96 sq' mosaic which will be installed at the Moss Rose Ground.

Although an enjoyable experience, researching football history and designing the concept is hard work. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed sitting at my desk in the wonderful Adelphi Mill, colouring in the design.  It has to be done but, boy, it took me back!

I will be running Mondays as Mosaic days at the Mill from next week so please phone to book a place as places are limited.

LAST MILL STANDING

 This was such a sad video to watch.  When you think of all the mills in Britain which produced so much textiles.  It is sad to see mills lay empty and derelict.  

Happily, many are transformed into stylish apartments or

offices.  I feel humbled, as I sit in my very nicely modernised studio space, in Adelphi Mill. 

We have it so easy these days. No longer are toddlers sent under working machines, risking fingers or worse, to collect stray bobbins. 

Many mills in Britain are a hive of industry in a different way. 

And that is to be applauded. There is a real buzz where I am.  

You can almost feel the history when you walk into the place and it kind of inspires you.

 I WAS working! Really! I just happened to meet my friend, Pat, for lunch at the Waterside Cafe..

 ...and stopped by to say hello to the ducks...

 ...and the flowers...

 ...before it was time to go back to the studio to carry on with my mosaics.

Bookcases

Who would have thought one could get SO excited about bookcases! They are in and once I have filled them I may just reward myself by breaking some glass.

The studio is taking shape - I am snuggling into it and finding my 'space'.

I have decided to hold some life drawing workshops in the studio. I imagine I will only be able to fit a maximum of 6 people in but I think it will be a good service to local artists plus it will make ME do some drawing.

Cardboard boxes are gone!

Phew - that's it! All the cardboard boxes are empty! Yay!

The glass is mostly organised on the shelves and although this is not going to be a retail unit, clients will be able to purchase mosaic materials either at time of their workshop or by appointment.

The bookcase should arrive next week and the studio will look so much tidier then!

I imagine by next week I will have broken the back of the organisation and may even get to mosaic! Oh - wait a minute, I have to arrange the open day. Ah - well, I think I might even do both.

Ideas, ideas

That's the first school quote sent out from my new Adelphi Mill office! Just got an hour left before I go to pick my lovely boy up from school and now we have the internet at the studio, he can do his homework as I unpack more boxes!

I am so excited about an idea for mosaic kits that I want to make. Gotta rush to unpack and get creative.

Glass, glass and more glass!

Well, I'm sitting here surrounded by chaos! I've sorted tubs and tubs of coloured glass and I keep finding more. Mike tells me I will never have to buy glass again but it's like I told him 'it's like a girl's need to buy handbags or shoes - you just don't have any control over it!' Don't think he's convinced.

I've just been downstairs to 'Art Graphics' and spoke to the lovely owners. How convenient is that, a framing service a floor below me!

I can actuallysee the floor now and when the bookcase arrives, there sill be more room.  I hope to have a kind of library that my students can use.

I still haven't worked out an 'open day' yet.  Should I do it in February or March? Or should I wait until April? Hmm. Suggestions on a postcard, please!

I will post photographs of the mess and the progress into organisation.

The Adelphi Mill is fabulous. It has such a good buzz about it and everyone I have met so far is great - I'm so excited about working here.

Ok - time to do a bit more, I can see five cardboard boxes and I think I clear one of the shelves before I empty them. Tomorrow I will have emptied them and then I might even be able to think about getting down and dirty with some glass, my trusty pair of Leponnits and some cement based adhesive.
